A mum who used social media to avoid having to repeatedly explain her disabled son’s conditions said his story has supported other families. Paige Norman, 24, from Norfolk, said the candid account on Instagram had reached out to parents to let them know “they’re not alone”.

Recording Emerging Adulthood in Deaf Youth

NDCS has launched ground-breaking new research that will follow deaf young people as they become independent adults. This research is the first of its kind and the results will help to improve the support that deaf young people get in future. It is called READY, which stands for Recording Emerging Adulthood in Deaf Youth. The research is open to deaf young people aged 15–18 with all degrees of permanent hearing loss and all language preferences.

Sitting linked to depression

Researchers at University College London in a study suggested, children who spend lots of time sitting still are more likely to develop depression by the age of 18. “The number of young people with depression also appears to be growing and our study suggests that these two trends may be linked.”

Research about sport and activity

DSActive aim to provide as many opportunities as possible for people with Down’s syndrome to lead active and healthy lives. They are looking for people who care for someone with Down’s syndrome to take part in their research about sport and activity.
