Changes to ‘mental disorder’ classification
Autism and learning disability will no longer be considered “mental disorders” or a justification for detaining people under the government’s draft Mental Health Bill. The bill includes major reforms to how autistic people or those with a learning disability are treated in law in England and Wales.

Major retailers and delivery firms are failing disabled customers
Seven in 10 disabled consumers faced one or more delivery problems in the past year, a joint survey with the Research Institute for Disabled Consumers has revealed. The survey of 704 disabled consumers found that half of those with a delivery issue said the courier didn’t wait long enough for them to answer the door. A quarter told us their parcels were left in an inaccessible way and the same proportion said that the courier did not provide the help they needed with their disability.
Thousands more school and sixth form places to be created
Up to 75 new free schools including sixth forms, specialist and alternative provision settings will offer tailored support, leveling up opportunities for all. Thousands of new school places will be created for children in England, including for those who are living in disadvantaged areas, have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), or require alternative provision.
