SEND Improvement plans launch in Derby
Following the Joint Local Area SEND Inspection in August, the Written Statement of Action has now been published. This action plan has been developed by speaking to, and working with, parents and carers to ensure children, young people and their families are at the heart of everything we do to secure the best possible outcomes, reach their potential and thrive into adulthood.

Develop social skills and confidence
Virtual reality technologies using head-mounted displays could help people with autism develop social skills and confidence, according to a researcher from the University of the West of England in Bristol.
Improving in-patient mental health, autism and learning disability services
NHS chief Simon Stevens announced that a new task force will be set up to improve current specialist children and young people’s in-patient mental health, autism and learning disability services in England.
Specialist task force delivery teams will be made up of doctors, nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists and other medical professionals. It will seek to:
- make a rapid set of improvements in care – over 18 months – but starting immediately
- agree a set of recommendations for next steps.
