Parent carers ‘what to do guide’

The Council has developed this ‘what to do’ guide for parent carers when trying to do the right thing if you suspect your child or someone in the family has COVID-19 (Coronavirus). It helps parent carers to make informed choices when answering questions such as what do I do if:

  • my child has COVID-19 symptoms?
  • my child tests positive for COVID-19?
  • someone in my household has tested positive?

 

 

Sleep linked to language skills in neurodevelopmental disorders

New research has discovered that Down’s syndrome, Fragile X syndrome and Williams syndrome are all linked to sleep disruption in very young children, and that sleep plays a crucial role in the development of these children’s language skills. The researchers found that sleep was disrupted amongst children with all three neurodevelopmental disorders. On average, typically developing children slept for about 50 minutes longer per night than those with a neurodevelopmental disorder.

Happier After Lockdown

Alex Manners, aged 23, has come out of lockdown a much happier person. Alex is a TV and radio presenter, Asperger’s champion and speaker, and has even written a blog on just how he has “evolved to become more spontaneous, less rigid with my plans and as a result much happier”.

The Good Childhood Report 2020

The Children’s Society has published a report looking at the wellbeing of children in the UK. A survey was conducted between April and June 2020, of more than 2,000 young people aged 10 to 17 across the UK, and their parent or carer.
