Derby’s former Youth Mayor named Children’s Champion
Derby’s former Youth Mayor, Abdul Siddiqi, has been named Children’s Champion in the National Children and Young People Awards for his role in supporting and championing young vulnerable people in the city. Abdul talks of his time as Derby’s Youth Mayor, and his award win.
The new Space Places Derby campaign
The council and Safe and Sound, the Derbyshire charity working with children, young people, and families affected by child exploitation, launched a new Space Places Derby campaign. The joint initiative aims to identify businesses and venues in Derby that can become a ‘Safe Place’ for children and young people, giving them somewhere to go if they feel they are at risk of harm within their community.

There are 14.1 million disabled people in the UK, yet only a staggering 9% of homes in England are accessible. Added to that, just 2.4% of new homes being built will be suitable for wheelchair users – outside of London this figure is just 1.5%. That’s why Disability Horizons has partnered with Branch Properties, specialists in accessible housing, to create the Ultimate Guide to Finding an Accessible Home and it’s FREE!
The RamUnion Quiet Hour
Since May, 30 large rams have been on display across Derby city centre, on the Derby Ram Trail. After the trail ends in September, all 30 of the large rams, as well as 80 mini rams which have been decorated by children across the city, will be on display in Derby Museum & Art Gallery. Each day from Friday 3rd – Sunday 5th September, there will be a Quiet Hour designated for people with autism or those who need additional space and quiet surroundings to enjoy the event. Quiet Hour time slots for the event can be booked now.
