Half-term holiday camp inspires young player
A visually impaired student at Allestree Woodlands School has succeeded in bringing the Paralympic sport of goalball to Derby. Clara Lane, 15, sampled goalball during an October half-term holiday camp in Hereford run by national charity VICTA, which provides support to children and young adults who are blind or partially sighted.

Landmark exhibition launches in Manchester exploring the fight for disabled people’s rights
It has been described as a ‘landmark’ exhibition, Nothing About Us Without Us which has just opened at the People’s History Museum in Manchester explores how disabled people’s rights have been fought for over centuries and the activism that has led this march forward. Not only does the exhibition look at the past and the barriers that have faced disabled people and their campaigns to overcome them, but also looks to the present and the future in which the fight is ongoing.
ASD Support Appointments
A parent ASD support service delivered by Children’s Centre Autism Champions for parents/carers of children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder. These sessions will give you an opportunity to talk to an ASD Champion, gain information and support and discover local sources of support. Offering a blended service, appointments will be either face-to-face sessions with limited numbers in our Centres, or 1-1 telephone support. Please contact your nearest centre as listed below:

CBeebies presenter with Down’s syndrome will take part in Strictly Christmas Special 2022
Award-winning TV presenter and disability activist George Webster, who made history when he became the first presenter on CBeebies with Down’s syndrome, will be appearing in the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special with professional dancer Amy Dowden.
