The Council for Disabled Children has worked with parent carers of autistic children and children with a learning disability, medical professionals and charities to develop a guide to improve conversations and decision-making about the prescription of psychotropic medication.

A social enterprise company, run by disabled people for disabled people, has received an award. Nimbus Disability, in Derby, was recognised in The Queen’s Award Innovation category. The award was presented by the Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire Elizabeth Fothergill and her deputy Tony Walker.

Unpaid carers, including parent carers, are providing more hours of care now than they were 10 years ago. That’s according to the latest census data by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) about unpaid carers released last week.

Louise Harris, who has multiple sclerosis, was approached by a manager in Hanley Wetherspoons on 13 January. “I was in utter shock, I could not believe it,” said Ms. Harris, adding she had provided proof cockapoo Bella was a service dog.
